Permanently Disabling Promiscuous Mode under Windows 98

DO NOT follow the procedure on this page unless you are sure you want to permanently disable promiscuous mode.

Once promiscuous mode has been disabled using this method, it cannot be re-enabled.

To permanently disable promiscuous mode using Windows 98 and the NDIS drivers MDGMPORT.SYS or MDGNDIS4.SYS:

  1. Open the NETMADGE.INF file (in the appropriate driver directory).

  2. Uncomment (by removing the semi-colons at the beginning of the lines) the following line:

    ; HKR,,Kill_PM,,"1"

  3. Continue with installation.
