Permanently Disabling Promiscuous Mode under Windows 95

DO NOT follow the procedure on this page unless you are sure you want to permanently disable promiscuous mode.

Once promiscuous mode has been disabled using this method, it cannot be re-enabled.

To permanently disable promiscuous mode on the Smart 16/4 PCI Ringnode Mk3 using Windows 95 and the NDIS drivers MDGMPORT.SYS or MDGNDIS.SYS:

  1. Open the NETMADGE.INF file (in the appropriate driver directory).

  2. Uncomment (by removing the semi-colons at the beginning of the lines) the following line:
     

    ; HKR,,Kill_PM,,"1"

  3. Continue with installation.
