Product Detail

Advantages

Robust connector ensures a network connection no matter how much use the laptop gets.
Multiple DOS memory configuration options either through Madge’s unique LSS Smart software or Novell’s Client-32.
Installation methods common with all Madge’s adapters, means that laptops can be easily deployed in a network.
Support for a wide range of standards including Hot-swapping and Winsock.
Robust LAN Connection

The nature of mobile computing dictates that laptop connectors are exposed to a greater level of stress than in desktop environments. To ensure that the network connection is never compromised, the Smart PCMCIA uses the latest highly reliable network cable connector while enabling X-Jack modems to co-exist in adjacent slots.

Multiple Memory Options

Madge provides a number of options to combat the memory problems suffered by DOS laptop users. When combined with Smart software, the 512KB on-boardmemory allows downloading of combinations of ODI, NDIS, LLC, NetBIOS, IPX or TCP/IP protocols, offering significant DOS conventional memory savings over other driver configurations.
Support is also offered for Novell’s Client-32 drivers, which give further DOS memory configuration options by allowing network drivers to be loaded into DOS extended memory, thus freeing conventional memory for use by other applications. When using Card & Socket services supplied by laptop vendors, many users can find problems with the size of these drivers.
Madge supplies Smart 16/4 PCMCIA specific Card & Socket services to reduce memory usage and simplify installation.

Simplicity and Convenience

Madge’s LSS LAN Support Software provides maximum functionality for laptop users to operate in both networked and standalone modes. Hot-swap allows users to connect or remove a PCMCIA adapter without the need to re-boot. Dual docking configurations enable use of a PCMCIA adapter when undocked and a docking station resident adapter when docked.
To allow laptop users to be easily integrated into the corporate LAN, the Smart 16/4 PCMCIA Mk2 is installed via the same familiar utilities used to configure Madge’s desktop adapters.

Performance

The Smart 16/4 PCMCIA MK2 provides performance comparable to an internal-based Token Ring adapter. This makes it significantly faster than alternative laptop connectivity options, such as an external parallel port adapter or a PC-to-PC serial link.

Operating System Support

The adapter is supported by Madge’s LSS LAN Support Software, a comprehensive suite of drivers and utilities for all Madge supplied adapters. This includes a range of host-resident drivers for highest performance, and Madge’s unique adapter-resident Smart Software for multi-protocol drivers.
